How to Book at Tacoma Animal Hospital (And When to Just Call Us)
April 7, 2026 · For Pet Owners

There's something quietly reassuring about booking a vet appointment at 10pm in your pajamas. No hold music. No explaining yourself to a stranger before you've had coffee. Just a few taps, and your dog's annual wellness visit is on the calendar.
We get it. We built online booking because it works, and because your time matters. But after a few years of running a hybrid urgent care and general practice clinic, we've also learned something: online booking is a great front door, and a terrible substitute for a conversation.
So here's our honest guide to booking at Tacoma Animal Hospital — when the online system is exactly right, and when you should just call us instead.
Book Online When:
It's a routine wellness visit. Annual exams, vaccine updates, heartworm tests, routine bloodwork — these are exactly what online booking was designed for. You know what you need, we know what to prepare, and the appointment runs smoothly for everyone. If your pet is healthy and you're just keeping up with their care, book online with confidence.
You need a recheck or follow-up. Checking in after a procedure, rechecking a skin issue, or following up on a chronic condition your pet is already being treated for? Great fit for online booking. Include a note in the comments field about what you're following up on — it helps us pull the right records and have context ready before you arrive.
You're a new client and your pet is healthy. We love meeting new patients. If you're coming to us for the first time and your pet is stable — even if you have questions or concerns — an online new patient appointment gives us enough time to do a thorough intake and start building a real picture of your pet's health.
You need a specific service you know we offer. Acupuncture with Dr. Kwon, a dental cleaning, a prescription refill consultation — if you know what you're coming in for, online booking lets you request it directly.
Call Us When:
Something seems wrong and you're not sure how serious it is. This is where our hybrid model matters most, and where online booking genuinely isn't the right tool. If your cat stopped eating, your dog is limping suddenly, or something just feels off — call us. We can help you figure out whether this is a same-day urgent situation or something that can wait for a scheduled appointment. That triage conversation is part of what we do, and it's hard to replicate in a dropdown menu.
Your pet has a complex or multi-system history. If your pet is managing multiple conditions, is on several medications, or has had a complicated course of care — give us a call before booking. We want to make sure we're scheduling the right amount of time and have the right team member involved. A 20-minute wellness slot isn't always the right container for a complex patient.
You're bringing in more than one pet. Multi-pet visits need a little coordination on our end. A quick call helps us set that up correctly so no one feels rushed.
You're not sure what kind of appointment you need. "My dog has been scratching a lot — is that dermatology? Allergies? Do I need to see a DVM?" Just call us. We'd genuinely rather spend two minutes helping you figure out the right appointment than have you show up for the wrong one.
What Happens After You Book
Whether you book online or over the phone, something happens on our end before you ever walk through the door. Your pet's chart gets pulled. The care team reviews any notes you left. If it's a new patient, we start building context. If it's a recheck, we look at what happened last time.
Online booking doesn't mean you're entering an automated system and hoping for the best. It means you're scheduling time with a team that's going to show up prepared.
The Short Version
Online booking at Tacoma Animal Hospital is real, it works, and we want you to use it — for the right things. For everything else, the phone still exists, and we still answer it.
If you're ever unsure, err on the side of calling. We'll either book you right then, or point you to the online system. Either way, you'll end up in the right place.
